The MMTTC across the country were established as a result of NPE 1986 with a view to provide opportunity for in-service college and university teachers to update their professional knowledge linking to career advancement..

The Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre, University of Mysore was established in 10th July 1987 along with 44 other Centres across the country. The MMTTC Review Committee which had earlier reviewed its functioning in 1997 had adjudged it as the best MMTTC-Academic Staff College, and had recommended the upgradation as First Order Academic Staff College. Reviewed and ranked by NAAC in 2012 and identified as MMTTC under Performer category with 5th Rank out of 66 colleges. Recently it was identified as High Performer MMTTC as per the MHRD report.
